The uncovered Destiny 2 files include several references to the patrol zones that were included in the first game. The original patrol zones of Old Russia, Dreadnaught, Venus, and Mars are all mentioned in the voice lines. These voice lines say things such as “head to Old Russia, scour the Cosmodrome”, “Mars is just a stepping stone on humanity’s journey, come with us”, and “I can’t imagine the horror you’ve seen on the Dreadnaught”.
Interestingly, it appears that these voice lines are said by the leaders of the three factions: Future War Cult, New Monarchy, and Dead Orbit. Bungie has already hosted one Destiny 2 Faction Rally event since launch, allowing players to compete, collecting the most tokens to unlock some discounted loot. It stands to reason that the event could come back, bringing back these patrol zones and giving players an extra reason to go out and explore the returning locations.
The suggestion that Destiny 2 will bring back the first game’s patrol zone is also backed up by leaks about the Curse of Osiris DLC. Listings for the upcoming DLC expansion described it as a “journey through time and space”. As a result, some fans are beginning to speculate that Bungie will use time travel as a plot mechanic, giving a ’logical’ explanation as to why players have to revisit the old patrol locations.
Most Destiny 2 players are delighted at the thought of revisiting the old locations. While the new patrol zones are fine, many agree that it would be nice to have some other sights to see and places to complete missions in. As Bungie is also set to bring back events like The Dawning and even the Sparrow Racing League is rumored to be returning this year too, it means that the holidays will be eventful for Destiny 2 players.
However, there are some Destiny 2 players who may be a little disappointed that Bungie may be bringing back old game locations instead of creating even more new ones. The developer is said to be creating a new Destiny 2 patrol zone on Phobos, but this may not be enough to make everyone happy.
Even the game’s honest trailers have criticized the developer for bringing back the enemy groups from the first game instead of developing all-new foes. The developer could have a difficult time proving to fans that this content is worth their time, then, but hopefully an official announcement will be soon.
Destiny 2 is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
