Long believed to be a PlayStation 4 exclusive since its E3 2016 trailer debut, Death Stranding has become a very fascinating title for its nebulous plot but also for its star-studded cast. From The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus to Casino Royale’s Mads Mikkelsen, Death Stranding has some very compelling actors. However, the conception that the game is exclusive to PS4 players is being questioned by many, as the Stadia’s upcoming entry into the video game market could shake things up in terms of console exclusives.

On July 25, head of the Google Stadia Games and Entertainment team Jade Raymond had visited Kojima at his studio, Kojima Productions. Kojima later tweeted a picture of the two in front of a flag displaying the Kojima Productions logo, thanking Raymond for her visit.

Oddly, what may have appeared to be a very innocent picture of two industry leaders side-by-side has strong implications with regards to Death Stranding and future projects from Kojima Productions. As the Google Stadia has a number of highly-anticipated games ready to go at launch and in its lineup, including The Division 2, Ghost Recon Breakpoint and other confirmed titles, it would seem to be a strategic move by Google to sidle up with the more independent but wildly popular studios.

In Kojima’s case, he is one of the most recognizable developers in the industry and is celebrated for his work on the Metal Gear Solid series. If the Google Stadia team partnered with Kojima and started streaming his titles, it would be a whole new reason for gamers to head Google’s way for gaming purposes.

Whether Death Stranding will get a Stadia release is unknown at the moment. While those who are getting a Google Stadia and are curious about Death Stranding may be tempted to get their hopes up, it would be best to wait until something more concrete comes along.

Death Stranding is set to launch on November 8, 2019.
