If gamers want to really trounce those sweet-toothed grubbin villains they need to get a firm grasp on the battle mechanics and Battle Stamps. Characters can only have one applied to their costume at a time and later variations improve upon some base types, while others have unique effects that make them stand out over the rest.

12 Bloodshot Eyeballs

Causing extra damage on a critical strike is certainly helpful and can really shorten a difficult battle. The pre-requisite for this ability to activate, however, is for a character to accomplish a critical strike first and that relies purely on luck. As good as the extra damage is, it still relies too much on random chance to be completely practical and can leave teams that focus on critical hits in a difficult position.

11 Toilet Paper

Stunning opponents can help in difficult battles by either putting an enemy out of commission temporarily and either giving characters some breathing room or stopping an annoying enemy from attacking.

This stamp covers foes in T.P. to stun a single enemy for 2 turns that can really turn the tide of a battle. However, as it causes no additional effects, it can be difficult to gain a victory without another plan in place for a team.

10 Pumpkin Guts

Causing splash damage to nearby foes can be tactically effective, especially when facing multiple weak or weakened enemies. It adds a handy edge to strikes and can cut down the length of some difficult battles. Unfortunately, the splash damage can be minor and serves no purpose against solo enemies.

9 One-Eyed Vampire Bat

Survivability in games is key and one of the best ways to ensure victory in battle is by making sure a team stays on its feet. This stamp provides a small recovery of health each turn and can keep characters away from defeat. This stamp does not get an upgrade, however, and the health recovered may not make much difference in later battles.

8 Witch’s Brew

Characters normally deal direct damage to enemies, however, with the use of this battle stamp they also apply a poison effect. As with many turn-based or role-playing games, poison effects cause damage over time and can be highly effective against solo, or high-health enemies.

This damage applies repeatedly and chips away at enemy health, though some may favor a more direct form of damage instead.

7 Jawbone of the Wolf

The basic damage buff stamp from the beginning of the game is improved substantially with this battle stamp. The greatly increased attack power can easily cut down tough opponents and even one-shot weaker, unlucky enemies.

Applying this battle stamp to some costumes, however, will result in something of a glass cannon and while they can cause high damage, they could be out of health before it can matter.

6 Flying Tombstone

This battle stamp is the upgraded version of an early game stamp and both boost health, though this version is significantly improved in comparison. While this does nothing for offense, it can greatly boost the survivability of support characters who can mean life or death for the entire party.

Alternatively, it can be applied to costumes that have lower health than others to bring them to a more balanced combat style.

5 Albino Black Cat

Even better than having more health when being hit, is not being hit at all. This upgraded battle stamp provides a significant chance of dodging enemy attacks and avoids the unpleasant chance of a critical hit.

It provides greater survivability and can be the key to ensuring supporting characters survive long enough to buff or heal the rest of the team. This stamp relies on chance, however, and while the upgraded version tilts the odds in the character’s favor, they can still experience a run of bad luck that leaves them out of commission.

4 Disembodied Six-Fingered Hand

Being able to attack multiple times can be extremely convenient and can turn a difficult battle into an easy one. The disembodied hand series provides counterattacks against an enemy that attacks, but only upon a successful defend.

The “defend” mechanic relies on accurate timing and takes practice to master which means it can be difficult for some gamers to use. Nevertheless, once proficient, it can really prove a powerful stamp.

3 Rotten Egg

Stunning an enemy on its own is helpful, but even better than a simple stun is causing damage in addition. This upgraded battle stamp uses the Halloween tradition of egging and can cause pretty severe damage and also stuns enemies which can make it a highly useful tool, especially if enemies can be stun-locked. Doing this takes some effort though and relies on characters not missing. It is also unfortunate that the stun only lasts for one turn.

2 Screaming Spider

Sometimes the fastest way to win is not to fight at all. This battle stamp is unlocked by defeating Bojonn and can cause a single enemy to flee when using the scare ability. This can completely remove a full-health enemy from the fight entirely.

It can make fights drastically easier if successful, however, the chance of this can at times seem low. Because of its requirement on chance, it is a very powerful stamp but not one to be relied on.

1 Banshee

To reward gamers for defeating Metxel, they are granted this battle stamp, which allows characters to auto-resurrect after 1 turn with a little health recovered. It is a fantastic way of avoiding complete defeat in battles and so long as at least one other team member is still fighting, it can be a necessary lifeline for the rest of the game.

It does require a turn before it can activate and is only obtained some way into the game so because of this, it is not the perfect stamp. Once obtained, it can be vitally important and practically a necessity for a well-built team.

Costume Quest is currently available on PC, macOS, Linux, and Mobile.
